1979-

I first went into the service February 28, 1979 at age 19. My first stop was Leonardwood Missouri for basic training and AIT. My MOS was "51R" (Interior electrician). After basic training, I went home for a months leave.

 

My my first duty post was Fort Riley, Kansas. I believe I was there up to 1980. After a months leave back home, I went to Schofield barracks Hawaii for 25 months. During that time I was introduced to Jacqueline Kuhaneck.

What happened that year

1980-

I was living on Schofield Barracks in Hawaii since the 25th of October 1980. 

 

Jacquie has been living in Tucson, AZ for the past 10 years. (She did live in New York, Little Valley I believe) 

In Arizona she was going to Pima Community College in 1980.

 

1981-

I met Jacquie through her Cousin Cris (Christine Strong) in 1981. Cris was living in Jamestown, NY and was dating my friend Jeff Roberts. Cris went to Tucson on a vacation to see Jacquie. Jacquie just broke up with her boyfriend around that time. Cris told her about me and she said she was interested in writing me.

 

I sent the first letter. That was mid or late June 1981.  We started talking on the phone and writing all the time.

I remember when I was in Hawaii I paid for the collect calls and they ran into the hundreds of dollars a month to call her.

I had been in Hawaii about 8 months by this time.

 

I believe we first met on a 15 day leave. I flew to Tucson and met her family. Then the two of us flew to NY on the 22 of December 1981. On the 6th of January, I flew back to Hawaii and she went to back to Arizona.
