This post card is from the late 30's or early 40's. The German town of Danzig is where August Kolodzaike was born. (my Great Grandpa) So it says on his Death Certificate, but I've also seen Census reports say he was born in Berlin along with a marriage license (which I have not seen but Ancestry.com says he was married in Berlin).
Ancestry.com has a certificate showing August's marriage being performed in Berlin Germany. I do not have the extended access to that so we'll just assume it's true.
Marriage was probable around 1883 as the first child was born 1884.
In May of 1889 my Great Grandpa August along with his wife Matilda "Tillie" Neitzel / Kolodzaike Boarded a ship called the Suevia. (Read more about the Stevia here) Boarding in Hamburg, Germany in May 1889 and arriving at Ellis Island New York 20 May 1889.
NOTE: the family story from people who would know, said August had a brother who was going to make the trip with them, but could not because he had a broken arm or leg, and could not travel.
The ships manifest shows August Kolodzaike (28) wife Matilda (26) traveling with daughter Anna (3) and son John age 11 months.
Ship name was Suevia Departed from Hamburg Germany on the 5th of May 1889 and arrived NYC I think I read something like the 20th of May 1889.
Years ago, I had Dolores Kolodzaike at my house. She was living in Toledo Ohio, as most of the Kolodzaike's do, She gave me a couple tidbits of information. Dolores was August Jr. daughter. So, consequentially, Dolores is the granddaughter of August senior. She said that her grandfather never learned to drive a car. Also, he only spoke in broken English and he enjoyed cooking.
On October 31st 1892 my great grandfather signed a letter of intent to become a citizen of the United States
On the 24th of October 1896
The Kolodzaike's become US/ naturalized citizens of the United States.
Tillie was born 1863
First child Anna born June 24 1884
This puts Tillie's age to: 21/22
1900 Census Toledo, Oh.

1895 Toledo City Directory
Yes it shows August living at 358 Curtis, but, Is Adelia his wife? Matilda? as it says Widow of Natson. WHO?
The 1900 senses says that Joanna Neitzel (Tillie's mother) came to the US in 1897. (8 years after August and family probably because of becoming a widow) among other things, the census says she was married 40 years.
