John Fay Jr.
March 18th 1784 - May 29th 1813(29)
Wife: Lucy Lilley June 8th 1782 - March 1870 (88)

Intro
Notes you will find on this page include:
John Lilley moves the John Fay family with widow, his daughter, and son Joel M Fay Sr. to Concord, Pennsylvania in 1831. John Lilley apparently moved everybody to Concord, Pennsylvania because he had a son named Prince Lilley who was there already and for some reason needed the family support. As it was written in one document, John Lilley went there to give aid to his son.

john Lilley has his name spelled Lillie, Liley, Lilley, and more.

1782
John Fay 1784 - 1813 (29) married Lucy Lilley Aug 26th 1805
Lucy was born in Canterbury, Connecticut.
** I got the spelling of LILLEY off the parents gravestone.

1830
Many snapshots from the military records, Lucy Smith, according to some of the records I've seen recently show that she was only married to Elijah Smith for between four and five years. Then Elijah was allegedly to have left Lucy. More record show Lucy has been after John's pension for what looks like decades. John was killed on a different day in service March 18, 1813. - but the family bible says he died May 29th 1813
** Lucy Lilley/ Fay married Elijah Smith in August or September 1820 in Lucy's home in Ellisburg, New York. (approximately 7 years after her husband, John Fay Junior's death. Making Lucy's son Joel M Fay Senior 14 years old) Lucy Lilley's father (John Lilley) took Lucy and Joel to Concord, Penn. There may have been another son named James, but he also could be the one who stayed and ran a hotel in Canandaigua, NY (Little to no information so far on James)
1830 census in New York shows Joel M. Fay Sr. (age 24) with his family next line down shows Lucy Smith, but no male person just Lucy and another female age 20 to 30. John Lilley takes family to Concord Pennsylvania 1831.

1805
John marries Lucy Aug 26th 1805
John was 21 and Lucy 23
** Also, Lucy shows up in the end 1850 census being 68 years old, which pushes her date of birth to 1782 so she is about one and a half or two years older than John
John Junior was born after the American Revolution which ended 1783

NOTE

1810
1810 Census
Otter Creek Vermont is 6 miles from where John Lilley living near one of the places we know John Fay moved his family to Vermont then to upstate New York area, where his son John Junior was killed by Indian during war of 1812.

1810
1810 Census from Mass. showing John Fay and below him John Fay Junior

Not 100% certain this is our John Fay and John fay Junior. Our John Fay Junior perished in war of 1812 / 1813 in New York.

John Fay Sr. would
be 55 years old

And John Jr. 26
At age 29 John Jr. is killed in the was 1813

NOTE
Lucy Lilley parents, John and Roxy

Lucy Fay married Elijah Smith on the 10th of September 1820
In this deposition, Joel M Fay Senior states that his mother Lucy lived with Elijah Smith for four or five years then he left, leaving her to be cared for by family.
Contrary to another report, the wife who should know, said John died May 19, 1813 Some reports stated he died March 18th and some the 19th 1813

The family Bible indicates John died May 19, 1813

NOTE
Lucy Lilley parents, John and Roxy
I believe they are buried in Concord, Pennsylvania

1820
To recheck names and date of this John Lilley
John Lilley is living in Richland, NY in 1820.
is only a few miles from where John Fay with son Joel Fay and wife Luck Lilley are living. They were in otter Creek, Vermont, which is near Middleberry, then moved to Salmon River, New York. Perhaps John Lilley and his family were following John Fay and his daughter Lucy Lilley/ Fay from Connecticut to Vermont to New York? Remember John Fay died in Sackets Harbor, New York 1813 after John Fay Junior's death, reportedly John Lilley took his daughter and her son Joel Junior to Concord, Pennsylvania. Presumably the Lilley's might have had family there.
NEW: I later learned John Lilley had a son Prince Lily, who was already in Concord, Pennsylvania.

1831
The death certificate of Joel M Fay Jr. (1920) list, mother Rebecca J. Maine as born in Pennsylvania- another clue perhaps why the move towards Pennsylvania research into Where Rebecca, Maine was born
Hand written letter by John Lilley explains why his revolutionary war pension check will be picked up in Pennsylvania instead of New York State.
There was a bit of turmoil during his time in New York State as his daughter's husband was killed during the war of 1812 leaving a wife and two small children. Joel Fay Senior being about 13 years old. They stay in New York long enough for Lucy to remarry Elijah Smith. (marriage 1820) But that only lasted four or five years according to other handwritten letters. And in 1831, John Lilley moves his family and his daughters to Concord Pennsylvania.

1850

This record indicates John Junior died March 18, 1813.

1850
1850 census from Concord, Pennsylvania. This section is up a few lines from when we see Joel with his children along with his mother listed as Lucy Fay. Notice the arrow point to Elijah Smith undoubtedly this is the man she marries after the death of her husband, John.

If this is Our Elijah Smith, he was married to Lucy Lilley in 1820 and only stayed with her between 4 to 5 years then he left says Lily's son Joel M Fay in a deposition.
